Why do guitarists use Fender Bassman? ›

It exhibits a sparkling, harmonically rich tone at low and moderate volumes. At louder volumes it thickens with a sweet distortion that only seems to get creamier the more it's cranked. It is particularly well matched to certain popular guitars, especially the Stratocaster.

Fender has broken new ground by adding a tweed amp to its Tone Master digital amp collection for the first time, with a 1959 Bassman bestowed with the privilege.

Funny enough, it was intended for bassists (hence the name). Out of all the amps on this list, the bassman is probably the one most beloved by guitar legends. Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Mike Campbell, Mike Bloomfield, Jimmie Vaughan, John Fogerty, Brian Setzer, and many more have used this amp for decades.

It has been noted in various interviews with producer Butch Vig that Cobain also used a Fender Bassman and a Vox AC30 in the studio for the recording of Nevermind.

What a lot of people do not know is that the 1964 6G6-B Bassman was actually the most recorded amplifier by The Beatles. The amp was first used by Paul McCartney as his main bass amp from 1965 to mid 1967 (he did use a Vox during this time but not as much as the Bassman).
