What is Wellsville, NY famous for? ›

Wellsville is known for being the junction of many foothill streams including Dyke's Creek feeding the Genesee River from the east. The water from Hurricane Agnes in 1972 exceeded the capacity and banks of Dyke's Creek, producing a rapid and huge pool of water at the center of the village.

The newspaper business is the only purpose 159 North Main St. has known, and the venture founded by the Barnes family in 1880 is Wellsville's longest-running enterprise. The Barnes family owned the Daily Reporter until 1964 and it was eventually acquired by Gatehouse Media, now known as Gannett.
